OpenAI integrates ChatGPT directly into Microsoft Excel

OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT for Excel in beta, directly integrating GPT-5.4 into spreadsheets. With this new add-in, users can ask ChatGPT to build or update Excel models using their own data and formulas through natural language prompts. For example, asking it to „forecast next quarter’s sales“ prompts the AI to generate the relevant tables and formulas automatically.

This significantly speeds up financial and data analysis by eliminating tedious manual work. OpenAI highlights that GPT-5.4’s new “Thinking” mode is specifically optimized for finance, achieving an impressive 87.3% accuracy on an internal investment-banking benchmark. The feature is currently rolling out to Business, Enterprise, and Pro users in the US, Canada, and Australia, with Google Sheets support expected soon.
