Ahead of the snap elections in the Netherlands, the Dutch Data Protection Authority warned against using AI chatbots for voting advice, citing bias and unreliability. A study found that chatbots tended to favor larger parties regardless of user input, while smaller parties were underrepresented.
By contrast, established tools like StemWijzer or Wahl-O-Mat rely on transparent questionnaires and verified data, providing more accurate guidance. Experts emphasize that AI can help educate voters on complex political issues, but it should not make decisions for them. Controlled, transparent AI tools can inform, but they cannot replace critical thinking or democratic responsibility.
