Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the number of entry-level jobs in the UK has dropped by 32%, according to the job platform Adzuna. Positions for university graduates, apprentices, and interns now make up just 25% of job listings – down from nearly 29%. Companies like BT, Klarna, and IBM are increasingly using AI to cut staffing costs or automate tasks.
Experts, including the CEO of Anthropic, warn that up to half of all entry-level office jobs could disappear within the next five years. At the same time, professionals with AI skills now earn 56% more on average. Politicians are urging people to upskill quickly, as job requirements are changing rapidly.
