Apple has once again lost a key figure in its AI division. Ke Yang, who was only recently appointed head of the AKI team (Answers, Knowledge, and Information), is leaving for Meta Platforms. Yang was responsible for advancing Apple’s AI search capabilities and improving Siri’s performance in handling web queries. His departure continues a growing trend of senior AI experts leaving Apple for Meta, which is heavily investing in its “Superintelligence” lab.
With pressure mounting to keep up with ChatGPT, Google’s AI search, and others, Apple’s AI division remains unstable as more departures are expected. The AKI team is now led by Benoit Dupin, originally a specialist in machine learning cloud systems.
