Research platform arXiv will suspend authors for one year if submitted papers contain clear signs of unchecked AI-generated content. The policy targets researchers who rely too heavily on AI without verifying facts, claims, or citations. Computer science administrators specifically criticized fabricated references, copied prompts, and obviously AI-generated passages.

Authors are still free to use AI tools, but they remain fully responsible for the integrity of their submissions. The stricter rules are a response to growing concerns that low-quality “AI slop” could flood academic publishing and undermine trust in scientific research and scholarly publications.
