The German Bundestag is planning to introduce its own AI chatbot to provide MPs and staff with a secure alternative to external AI services. The initiative comes in response to the growing use of unregulated tools, often referred to as shadow AI. Initially, the chatbot is expected to assist with routine tasks such as transcriptions, text editing, and sorting incoming requests from citizens.
A Berlin-based start-up has been selected to implement the project. The plan is initially for a twelve-month pilot project. The new assistant is expected to be ready for use by the end of this year. The aim is to strengthen data security and AI governance while also promoting the practical use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary work.
