Canada and the European Union have decided to significantly expand their cooperation in the areas of artificial intelligence and digital services. The occasion was the first meeting of the EU-Canada Digital Partnership Council in Montreal. Both sides signed two memoranda of understanding focusing on the responsible development and use of AI and secure digital identities.
The AI agreement provides for closer cooperation on standards, regulation, skills, research and the introduction of AI in key economic sectors, and supports the implementation of the G7 AI Roadmap. A second agreement aims at interoperable digital credentials and trust services. The goal is to strengthen innovation, competitiveness, digital sovereignty and economic resilience in a sustainable manner.
