The goal is to tailor safety precautions, content, and experiences for younger audiences. The model analyzes behaviors and account signals such as usage patterns, activity times, account age, and self-reported age.
If a person is classified as a minor, sensitive content is restricted. Adults who are incorrectly flagged can verify their age via selfie using the Persona service and regain full access. The feature is being rolled out worldwide, with an expansion to the EU in the coming weeks. According to OpenAI, particular attention will be paid to data protection and transparency.
