Anthropic has introduced Claude for Excel, an AI assistant that can read, edit, and explain spreadsheets directly within Microsoft Excel. It can correct formulas and create new sheets. The tool is currently in beta with around 1,000 testers and integrates financial data from providers like Moody’s, LSEG, and Aiera, giving analysts and accountants real-time market insights.
Early deployments at major institutions such as AIG and Norway’s sovereign wealth fund have shown significant productivity gains and improved accuracy. Competing with Microsoft Copilot, Claude’s focus on financial data aims to enhance professional workflows, though its reliability and adoption in real-world production environments remain to be seen.
