Deep Cogito has introduced Cogito v2 – a new family of open-source AI models that can improve their own reasoning. The models range from 70 to 671 billion parameters, with the largest, a Mixture-of-Experts model, ranking among the most powerful open-source AIs in the world. Using a method called Iterated Distillation and Amplification (IDA), the models internalize their reasoning steps, resulting in solution paths that are up to 60% shorter.
Development of the entire lineup cost under $3.5 million. Cogito v2 competes with top-tier systems like DeepSeek R1 and even shows surprising image reasoning abilities – despite not being trained for it. Deep Cogito plans to keep all future models fully open-source.
