EU member states and the European Parliament have provisionally agreed to simplify AI rules under the “Digital Omnibus” package. Some key obligations will be postponed to reduce legal uncertainty and avoid double regulation. High-risk AI systems have until December 2027 to comply, while AI in products such as lifts or toys has until August 2028.
SMEs will face simpler rules in the future, and developers will be able to use an EU-level testing environment. The agreement also bans non-consensual sexually explicit AI content and requires AI-generated content to be labelled. Formal approval is still pending.
