The European Union is tightening its control over AI and is setting up a new team to monitor AI companies worldwide. The focus is on risks such as deepfakes, sexual content, cyber-attacks and malicious manipulation. In future, AI-generated images and chatbot content are to be clearly labelled or digitally watermarked.
In addition, the EU AI Office will be expanded by 38 additional staff members. They will be able to investigate companies, interview employees and obtain confidential information via new reporting and whistleblowing systems. Breaches may be punished with heavy fines or even exclusion from the European market. The measures are intended to strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty.
