German defense startup Helsing has unveiled the CA-1 “Europa,” an autonomous, AI-powered combat drone designed to shape the future of aerial warfare and reduce Europe’s reliance on U.S. military technology. The four-ton stealth drone is part of a new generation of unmanned combat aircraft and is expected to begin test flights in 2027, with operational readiness planned for 2031.
Built for complex missions like radar jamming and swarm attacks, the drone reflects a shift toward more affordable, AI-driven defense systems. The project highlights Europe’s push for greater defense autonomy but also raises ethical and regulatory questions around autonomous weapons.
