Germany has taken an important step toward overseeing artificial intelligence by appointing the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) as the country’s central AI regulator and national contact point for the EU AI Act. The new AI-MIG law gives the agency the authority to monitor compliance with regulations, investigate violations, and coordinate AI oversight. Sector-specific regulators will continue to retain their own areas of responsibility.

Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger welcomed the move but warned that Europe must accelerate its efforts to achieve AI sovereignty and strengthen control over advanced technologies. He highlighted the need for secure European AI infrastructure, greater investment, and faster progress in global AI competition.
