Germany has opened one of Europe’s largest AI data centres in Munich, marking the launch of its first full-scale “AI factory” aimed at strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty. The facility is operated by Deutsche Telekom in partnership with companies such as NVIDIA and SAP. It is equipped with nearly 10,000 GPUs and provides high-performance AI computing resources under strict German and EU data protection rules.
The goal is to support businesses, researchers, and the public sector in developing AI, reduce dependence on foreign technology providers, and further advance the creation of a sovereign European AI ecosystem. The project is part of a broader EU strategy to strengthen domestic AI infrastructure and innovation.
