India’s national AI initiative is gaining momentum: powerful computing infrastructure for AI is expected to be available by mid-2025, according to Abhishek Singh, Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. As part of the program, valued at approximately €1.15 billion, data centers, startups, and cloud providers will be offered cost-effective access to GPUs, TPUs, and storage. Over half a billion euros of this fund are specifically earmarked to support Indian startups through subsidized computing power.
Singh emphasized the need for more investment in AI infrastructure to foster talent and enhance the efficiency of digital public infrastructure by up to 60% with the help of AI. AI, he noted, can particularly improve efficiency and service quality in digital services such as payment and identity systems.
