The French AI company Mistral AI is investing €1.2 billion to build a major AI infrastructure in Sweden, marking its first facility outside France. The data center is being developed in partnership with Swedish operator EcoDataCenter and is scheduled to open in 2027. It will provide high-performance computing power to train and run Mistral’s next-generation AI models.
Mistral’s investment highlights Europe’s growing push for AI sovereignty and strengthens digital independence and competitiveness. Technology and cloud operations will remain within the region rather than relying on U.S. providers like OpenAI.
