French AI company Mistral AI has secured $830 million in debt financing to build a large AI data center near Paris. This marks the company’s first major debt raise and a step toward infrastructure independence.
The funding, provided by a consortium of seven banks, will be used to purchase approximately 13,800 Nvidia GPUs and operate the facility, which is expected to go live in the second quarter of 2026. The goal is to expand European AI compute capacity and reduce reliance on U.S. cloud providers while driving Mistral’s broader expansion across Europe.
