French AI company Mistral has unveiled ML4, a new model from its latest generation, also known as “Le Chonk.” The model is designed to strengthen Europe’s position in the global AI race. Once its weights are released, it is expected to become the most powerful open-weight AI model developed outside China. ML4 focuses on cybersecurity and defence, targeting businesses and governments looking for a European alternative to American and Chinese technologies.
The model was trained on 4,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in European data centres and supports more than 160 languages. It is currently available through the Mistral API. The release of its weights is scheduled for October 27.
