SAP plans to acquire the German start-up Prior Labs and invest around $1.16 billion to build a leading European AI research center focused on enterprise data. Prior Labs was founded in Freiburg just 18 months ago and specializes in “tabular foundation models.” These models are designed to analyze structured business data more efficiently than traditional machine learning systems.
SAP has also approved Nvidia’s NemoClaw as one of the few AI agent frameworks allowed to access SAP business data. This move points to tighter control over the ecosystem and underlines SAP’s ambition to compete with U.S. hyperscalers. At the same time, it strengthens Europe’s AI capabilities and embeds AI more deeply into business processes and enterprise analytics.
