Schools across the U.S. are increasingly teaching AI literacy rather than simply banning chatbots. Educators want students to understand both the benefits and the limitations of the technology, including hallucinations, bias, privacy risks and fabricated information.
In Charleston, teachers and students are being trained to understand how AI works, when its use makes sense and why AI-generated information needs to be verified. Utah is taking a statewide approach, having already trained more than 7,000 teachers and supported school districts in developing AI policies. Experts stress that AI literacy means more than good prompting. Critical thinking and knowing when not to use AI are essential.
