Sweden’s vibrant tech and AI start-up scene is growing rapidly. It encompasses investments of nearly US$1 billion and several companies that are scaling up significantly internationally. However, at the Techarena event in Stockholm, founders warned that European and national bureaucracy could slow down this upswing. Instead of further support programs, they are calling for less regulation above all else.
Particularly strict immigration and compliance requirements make it difficult to hire urgently needed skilled workers. Many start-ups see this as a clear competitive disadvantage in the global AI race. Sweden has long been considered innovation-friendly, but without faster procedures and more flexible rules, the country could lose momentum.
