OpenAI has released GPT-5 – a refined version of its AI model, now available via ChatGPT. A key new feature is the automatic switching between fast standard models and slower, more „thoughtful“ versions. GPT-5 also offers faster reasoning, a smoother user interface, and fewer hallucinations, making it noticeably more pleasant to use.
However, from a technological standpoint, this is more of a product refinement than a major leap toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). While GPT-5 performs well in benchmarks, truly groundbreaking advances are still missing. OpenAI calls it a small but important step toward AGI – yet the big breakthrough is still to come.
