The UK and Germany are cooperating to accelerate the commercial use of quantum computing and bridge the gap between research and practical applications in computing, sensor technology, and time measurement. Joint funding measures, including a £6 million research and development tender and £8 million for applied photonics, are intended to strengthen product development and supply chains.
Harmonized measurement standards under a bilateral memorandum of understanding will remove regulatory barriers. Quantum technology could contribute £11 billion to the UK’s GDP by 2045 and create over 100,000 jobs. At the same time, it can enable advances in pharmaceutical research, medical imaging, AI, and high-performance computing in Europe. The collaboration provides companies with a strong foundation for scaling high-performance IT infrastructures.
