A new United Nations report warns that the rapid development and uneven global adoption of artificial intelligence could significantly deepen existing inequalities. While AI has enormous potential to boost productivity and improve education and healthcare, its benefits are expected to remain concentrated in a small number of advanced economies and major technology companies.
Countries in the Global South risk falling further behind due to limited infrastructure, insufficient access to data, and a lack of investment. The report calls for stronger international cooperation, shared AI governance frameworks, and better AI education to ensure more equitable outcomes and prevent the global digital divide from widening.
