Anthropic is temporarily suspending access to its advanced AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5. The move follows a US government order that prohibits access for foreign nationals both inside and outside the United States. The restriction even affects some of the company’s own employees. To ensure full compliance with the regulations, Anthropic said it must disable the models for all users rather than attempt selective access controls.
According to reports, authorities are concerned that Fable 5 could be jailbroken and used to identify software vulnerabilities. Anthropic, however, believes the risk is lower than suggested. The case highlights the growing tension between AI innovation, cybersecurity, and government regulation.
