Volkswagen and Bosch are teaming up to make autonomous driving accessible to a broader market by 2026, using production-ready, AI-based driving software. Their joint initiative, the Automated Driving Alliance, focuses on automated driving for private vehicles. Unlike current robo-taxi models, this technology is meant to work without being limited to specific geographic areas.
Initial tests are already underway with 20 vehicles in Europe, the U.S., and Japan, with plans to expand to 100. Level 2 automation is set to launch as early as next year, followed by Level 3, depending on legal frameworks. The project also aims to reduce reliance on U.S. tech giants and strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty by smartly bundling and scaling existing technologies.
