I.AI Consulting & Training

UK Technology Minister Peter Kyle has called for a major reform of the Alan Turing Institute (ATI). He wants the institute to place a stronger emphasis on defence, national security, and control over the UK’s own AI technologies — what he refers to as „sovereign capabilities.“ In a letter to the institute’s board, Kyle also pushed for changes in leadership and criticised the current „Turing 2.0“ strategy as inadequate.

The institute recently received £100 million in government funding but, according to Kyle, its future could now be under review. Experts like AI specialist Dame Wendy Hall fear that ATI may lose its role as a national research centre and become too narrowly focused on security issues.
