The French Ministry of Defence has signed a comprehensive framework agreement with domestic AI company Mistral AI. The agreement aims to deploy advanced AI models, software and services in the military, research institutions and other public authorities. The goal is to strengthen national defence capabilities while maintaining control over sensitive data and infrastructure by operating the technology on French systems.
Supervision will be provided by the state agency for artificial intelligence in the defence sector (AMIAD). The deal builds on previous cooperation and underscores France and Europe’s efforts to achieve sovereign AI in security-critical areas amid global competition.
