Opera, a Norwegian software company, is launching Neon, a paid, AI-powered browser. It goes beyond simple chatting and sees itself as an agent-based workspace. For $19.90 a month, it bundles leading AI models and offers three modes: Chat, Do and Make. Chat manages conversations, Do lets the browser perform actions independently while you can do other stuff at the same time. Finally, Make offers an area where you can create and publish small web projects hosted by Opera.
Neon promotes creative work and, despite its remaining weaknesses in terms of speed and maturity, replaces extensions and productivity apps by integrating creation directly into browsing. It offers a glimpse of browsers that function as digital workbenches rather than windows.
