OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has declared “Code Red” for ChatGPT following the success of Google’s Gemini 3. Gemini 3 gained 200 million users in three months and outperformed ChatGPT in benchmark tests. Altman postponed plans for advertising, AI agents, and the Pulse assistant. He realigned teams and introduced daily status meetings.
The rapid spread of Gemini 3 and praise from tech executives such as Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff have increased competitive pressure. Unlike Google, OpenAI finances its enormous computing costs through fundraising rather than profits. Altman hinted that a new model for simulated thinking could soon surpass Gemini 3. This also reflects the intense competition in the AI field.
