Anthropic has unveiled Opus 5, positioning it as a more affordable and less restrictive alternative to Fable 5. Despite its lower price, Opus 5 outperforms Fable 5 on several benchmarks and is designed to verify its own work more effectively when handling complex tasks. Unlike Fable and Mythos, Opus 5 is not subject to the 30-day data retention policy that had raised privacy concerns among some users.
The model retains safeguards for sensitive cybersecurity applications while removing unnecessary restrictions. Anthropic has also introduced a new “Automatic Fallbacks” feature, allowing blocked requests to be redirected to a less capable model instead of failing outright.
