The British government is launching AI boot camps to prepare young people who are unemployed or at risk of unemployment for the world of work. A pilot project in the North West of England is offering three weeks of training to up to 70 participants aged between 16 and 21. They will learn how to develop and use AI tools, understand business applications and use the technology responsibly.

In addition, basic vocational skills are taught. The aim is to enable as many of them as possible to go on to undertake an apprenticeship. Experts welcome the initiative, but doubt that three weeks will be enough. Given rising youth unemployment, continuous learning and regular further training are crucial.
